If this sounds like your situation, you don’t need to decide anything yet.
We know what it feels like when your income disappears.
When decades of work suddenly don’t matter. When you need a solution but everything feels too complicated or risky.
We’ve been there.
John at 62: business collapsed, no income, financially under-prepared for retirement.
Lisa at 57: made redundant after 31 years, too old for the job market.
We needed income that wouldn’t mean downgrading our lives.
What came next surprised us.
John’s story: Self-employed 30+ years. Built businesses, made bespoke furniture in Italy. Had freedom but no financial security. COVID hit. Business gone. Age 62, no income, no plan.
Lisa’s story: 35 years corporate. Managing Director at 37. Made redundant at 57. Job market said: too old, too expensive. Decided: never to work for someone else again. But didn’t know how.
John discovered he could get paid for helping people find what they needed. No stock. No staff. No office. He started learning. Five months later, first income. Fourteen months later: regular sales, reliable profit, income he controlled.
Lisa joined John’s business after she was made redundant. She learned the same process. Built her own income while writing the novel she’d started eight years ago. First time in 35 years, no one controlled her time.
We asked ourselves: what do we wish someone had told us when we were in the dark?
John: “Your expertise doesn’t disappear because someone decided you’re too old or expensive. You just need to offer it differently.”
Lisa: “That redundancy isn’t the end. It’s never too late to do work that you love and be your own boss.”
We’re not asking you to buy anything yet.

Anyone can change. Will you?

I grew up with sawdust in my blood. My father was a carpenter in the Royal Engineers, and I followed in his footsteps. By the time I was 62, I’d spent 19 years building furniture in my workshop in Italy but I’d fallen completely out of love with the work.
I was good enough to work on autopilot, and that was the problem. The challenge was gone. Each morning felt like a chore. I was becoming someone I didn’t like – resentful, drained, watching time slip away.
Then COVID hit, and everything stopped. But lockdown gave me what I didn’t know I needed: time and space to face the truth. I had to find an alternative income. While researching how to sell furniture online, I stumbled across a retraining programme and I saw ordinary people turning online skills into income. This wasn’t a scam. It was a legitimate, proven path. And I knew: this was my escape route.
Affiliate marketing caught my attention. The idea seemed absurd at first, earning commissions by connecting people with training programmes, without creating products or holding stock. But the more I learned, the more sense it made.
I’d never invested in myself before. Paying for one-to-one coaching felt risky. Still, I was tired of chasing freedom and never achieving it. I promised myself I’d go all-in and earn that investment back. That mindset shift changed everything.
Learning was tough at first. My brain wasn’t used to this kind of work. Yet, it fired me up, improved my focus, recall, and creativity. Five months later, I launched my first affiliate business, which became Retirementincomesolved.com.
From the first month, I earned income. I’d open my laptop in the morning and see commissions, even ones that came in overnight. The lightning bolt hit: I was finally free. Free from bosses, burnout, and bills.
I moved to Spain, embraced an active lifestyle, and at 66, amazingly, I met Lisa. We’re building a future together while living richly in the present.
For the first time, I feel secure and future-proofed. But more importantly, I have clarity. My values are simple: health, relationships, mission. And decisions come easily because I know what matters.
Looking back, I realise I wasn’t chasing money. I was chasing freedom. The money just enabled it. Retirementincomesolved.com helps Brits 55+ solve the financial piece of this equation.
And GoReinvent.com goes deeper for anyone 45+ who’s ready to reclaim control of their direction and finances. To prove to themselves and others that the second half of life can be the best half.
Because it’s not too late. Your experience isn’t a liability, it’s your greatest asset. If you’re willing to invest in yourself and refuse to fade into the background, my story could become yours.
Life has thrown me plenty of curve balls, but I have no regrets. Every decision, good or bad, has shaped who I am today.
For 35 years, I worked in media publishing, marketing, and sales, a career that took me from Sussex to Bermuda, the Cayman Islands, Guernsey, and eventually Spain. I started in fashion, detoured into European travel as a tour guide, then found my calling in newspapers, eventually becoming Managing Director of the Bermuda Sun at just 37.
I’ve always loved creating something meaningful, whether it was a newspaper layout, a Caribbean phone directory, or now, a novel. I thrived on collaboration, big-picture thinking, and leading teams through change.
But in January 2025, at age 57, after 31 years with the same company, I was made redundant.
And in that moment, I made a life-changing decision: I would never be an employee again.
No more HR handbooks. No more clocking in. No more asking for time off. I would no longer allow anyone else to control my time, value, or future. Instead of seeing redundancy as a setback, I saw it as a fresh start.
I chose freedom, flexibility, and the courage to build something of my own, on my terms. Today, I’m working alongside my partner, John, in his successful affiliate marketing business.
GoReinvent is our brainchild and passion project – conceptualised, built, and launched together – but our greatest success is helping others find the confidence to start their own ventures.
I now get to shape my days, pursue my passions, and define success on my own terms. At the same time, I’m pursuing a lifelong dream: writing. My debut novel is complete; a sequel is already taking shape, and I’ve started writing a self-help book too.
Remember those curve balls I mentioned earlier? The journey here hasn’t always been easy. I’ve navigated major career changes, international moves, personal set backs, and most recently the profound loss my father in November 2024. But I believe it’s not what happens to us, it’s how we respond.
We can choose to feel broken and powerless, or we can learn, adapt, and move forward. That, to me, is resilience.
Since March 2025, I’ve drawn on my experience in sales and marketing, continued to upskill, and taken bold steps toward a life that aligns with who I truly want to be.
I want to inspire other women over 50 to do the same: to dream again, reclaim their power, and pursue that long-held goal. Because it’s never too late. Age isn’t a limitation, it’s a strength.
Now, I’m writing the next chapter – literally and figuratively.
